It's actually quite surprising that a tiny number of people are committing acts of sabotage within Russia. When we consider the USA, it's easy to see that the most congenial response to authoritarian misdeeds is simply passivity or performative non-actions such as waving placards on a street corner. When the US Border Patrol, under Trump administration instructions, was pulling terrified small children from the arms of their parents, telling both children and parents they'd never see one another again, and then throwing all into cages, no one did anything. When brutal thugs in police uniforms put hundreds of people into tents in the Arizona desert where they were exposed to 40+ Celsius heat and given almost no water, no one did anything. The list of such examples is extensive but these two will suffice to make the general point.

It's easy for fat complacent Westerners to imagine that Russians must rise up against the Putin regime, but when we look at what we ourselves do when provided with ample evidence of misdeeds by those in authority, it's clear that those few acting in Russia today are extremely exceptional.
