It's also fair to say that countless studies have amply demonstrated that at best we're only occasionally and very partially "conscious" in any meaningful sense. Our illusion of self is lovely, but it's fundamentally just an illusion created by our brains for basic evolutionary reasons. Ironically, the less "conscious" a person it, the more strongly they will argue for consciousness.... and along with it the hobgoblins of "soul" and suchlike nonsense.
