It's also the case that as Eire has become a more modern humanist nation (e.g. the malign influence of the Catholic Church has shrunk) it's less abhorrent to those who conform to the protestant version of Christian mythology. Furthermore, as a majority of those in NI voted to remain in the EU but were dragged out by dull-witted English and Welsh voters, the appeal of reunification and departure from Backward-with-Brexit Britain has grown enormously.
My own personal hope is that some form of Swiss-style federation will come into being, as this is the form of Irish unification least likely to cause ongoing problems.
