It's always been the case that people attempt to distract others from their own crimes. Back when homosexuality was illegal, closet gay men would often go "queer bashing" in a desperate attempt to prove to their friends (and often to themselves) that the desires they kept secret could be extirpated by "manly" shows of homophobia. Republican politicians, not surprisingly, are far more often caught in flagrante delicto with young men than their Democrat opponents who don't have to pretend to demonize same-sex relationships in order to garner the votes of the ignorant, bigoted, and sexually fearful. This means it's pretty obvious that when Republicans start shouting about pedophilia and pretending it's something other people do, we can confidently expect that it's Republicans who are among the very worst and most persistent pedophiles in the country.
