It's always fascinating to see how little evolutionary theory influences people's beliefs, even people who are supposedly trained in scientific disciplines. One obvious point would be to note that humans, like our primate cousins, evolved for millions of years to deal with sunlight and given the complex biochemical pathways stimulated by being exposed to sunlight, it's curious to conclude that merely because too much exposure can elevate risk of skin cancer, exposure to sunlight is necessarily "bad." One should always think carefully before leaping to conclusions based on a monotonic focus on a single phenomenon. We've seen this mistake over and over and over again, and each time basic errors of reason are exacerbated by the sensation-seeking media that always needs something with which to grab people's attention and thereby generate revenues. In reality, things are complex and simple answers are always highly misleading or downright wrong.
