It's an amusing assertion to make: "the extremists are losing." In reality (a place the author appears not to have visited) the extremists are everywhere making gains. Le Pen will almost certainly be France's next Presidente and before then the government will certainly be comprised mainly of extremists on the far-left and far-right. All across Europe far-right Parties are gaining increasing power and many now are coalition partners with other Parties that only a few years ago said they'd never do such deals. In the USA the mindless vermin Trump is about to waddle back into the White House and the ultra-right Republican Party, with its far-right enablers in the Supreme Court, is establishing an eventual tyranny. Putin's extremist notion of re-establishing the Russian Empire continues because it's clear the West has no political capacity to resist and in China everyone knows that the PRC will invade Taiwan within the next five years and establish a dictatorship there. Meanwhile in India Modi's ultra-Hindu-nationalist Party has taken a beating but the key organs of state remain firmly under his control so this is likely a temporary setback.
So where, exactly, are the extremists "losing?"
