It's difficult to reconcile the optimism presented in this article with the results of polls that show an overwhelming majority of Republican voters (a) believing the spew of lies the infantile orange cretin continues to vomit out, and (b) intending to vote for him in the 2024 election.

Studied have shown that once people commit to a belief, they will then deny all real-world evidence to the contrary, doubling down on their mistaken worldview. Interviews with ordinary Republican voters (who tend to be far more religious and far less intelligent and informed than the US average) indicates strongly that these people still worship their orange god and have every intention of voting for him in 2024.

Moreover, there is no sign whatsoever of the Republican Party repudiating the orange creature; indeed, senior GoP politicians persist in repeating Trump's lies and pandering to the know-nothing voters who continue to worship him.

It is therefore extremely premature to imagine, even for a moment, that the Republican Party has had anything remotely approaching a change of heart. Their cynical pursuit of power at any cost guarantees that the USA has entered the penultimate phase of civic and political collapse.
