It's not really an issue of politics. The hard fact is that nearly everyone is stupid, ignorant, and gullible. It's called being human. We live in a world in which profit is to be made from lying and so it's natural that lies predominate. As we humans have extremely limited cognitive abilities, we can't expect people to work out what's real and what's unreal when they're being bombarded by lies every moment of the day. Unfortunately it's not at all easy to see the solution to our problem because so many stand to gain so much by continuing the status quo. My own suspicion is that we're burning what remains of western civilization in order to generate juicy ad revenues for large corporations - and that there's no escape.
