Kostas, as a Brit by birth but European by culture & outlook, I agree with your general analysis except for the fact that it doesn’t acknowledge how the UK is actually split. Younger and more educated people are almost always pro-EU; meanwhile older and more ignorant people fall for the simple-minded lies they’re fed by cynical opportunists. The sad thing about Brexit is that the UK is now destined to fester and rot, dooming millions of bright young people who now find themselves trapped on a sinking ship.
The ideal solution would have been to let a part of the UK (let’s call it the Backward Kingdom, and draw its boundaries around the north of England) leave the EU while the rest (except Wales, which apparently believes Brexit means getting the English out of Wales) remained within the EU in order to build a constructive and forward-looking society. Sadly this was never on the table.
