Like all brains, the human brain is a pattern-recognition machine and we seek to make sense of the world around us by spotting easy-to-understand patterns. When reality is too complex, we simply impose simple patterns and believe we've found "the truth." This is, of course, the basis of conspiracy theories and religions, which are in essence merely long-lasting conspiracy theories involving not malign government actors but invisible magical pixies. In the realm of business, when preening imbeciles screw up royally, we invent "reasons" such as dark secret malign intent. But in reality, people like Musk and the orange creature he so adores (Trump) are merely imbeciles who should be laughed at. But as ordinary people regularly mistake inherited wealth for "genius" they credit these imbeciles with qualities they have never, and will never, possess. And then, when the imbeciles do what imbeciles always do - f*ck up royally - we impose our patterns of deep states and hidden motivations. But really, it's just old-fashioned incompetence conjoined with over-sized ego.
