More Thoughts On DuoLingo
How the app is flawed yet why it’s nevertheless probably worth your time
For the last several months I’ve had only irregular access to the Internet and so only irregular opportunities to use DuoLingo. Most often, I’ve been using the free app during periods where I’ve been unable to sleep and/or very much need something to take my mind off of more serious matters. So, my use of DuoLingo has been far from ideal and yet despite gaps caused by other commitments, I began using DuoLingo some four hundred and fifty days ago and continue to use it still.
In the time that’s passed since my last article on Medium about DuoLingo, I’ve come to some additional conclusions. For those who are considering using DuoLingo either to begin acquiring the basics of a new language or to enhance their existing foundation, I hope these observations may be helpful.
But let’s start with an obvious question for those who may not have heard of it: what is DuoLingo?
It’s a language learning app that utilizes research on how people best acquire a new language. DuoLingo is available on iPhones (for those who love to buy things that cost much more than they’re worth) and on Android (for people who don’t want to spend excess money just to feel better about themselves).
