Most people are both very ignorant and rather foolish, and therefore prefer simple-minded ideas that don't require them to make any effort to perform the difficult task we refer to as "thinking." If people were slightly less intellectually indolent, they'd acquaint themselves with some rather interesting facts. For example, in 1913 the world enjoyed global trade so vast that we didn't get back to the same point until the mid-1970s. Turning away from global trade and toward protectionism yielded the Great Depression, which wiped out far more people than globalization has ever done. Moreover, many rust-belt enterprises were doomed not by globalization but by technological change (mini-mills replacing old-style steel mills, etc.). Furthermore, wage stagnation isn't primarily the result of globalization but of social policy such as tax breaks paid for by the wealthy (via lobbying and all-important campaign contributions) to benefit the wealthy at the expense of everyone else, which is down to the USA being extremely corrupt. If we look at Sweden, which embraced globalization, we see far less wage disparity and no wage erosion, because their (gasp... socialist!) taxation policies prevent the grotesque distortions that are now hardwired into the US economy due to Republican Party politicians voting 86% of the time for policies that favor the super-rich and penalize everyone else. In fact the most ironic thing about US politics is how the very people hurt most by Republican-sponsored legislation are those who turn out most faithfully to vote Republican at every election.

In the end, the supposed downsides of globalization imagined by MAGA types are all attributable to US corruption. There are some very real downsides to globalization, but MAGA types are totally unaware of them - perhaps they're simply too busy chanting slogans and cramming donuts down their throats to have any time left in which to attempt any tiny measure of self-education.
