My parents were British, I was born in the Middle East, grew up there and in Africa and all over Europe. I’m European by culture, and after 27 years in the USA also a dual national, now back in Europe and realizing how much I missed being among people who don’t think guns & dollars are the ne plus ultra of existence. In my experience the most interesting and thoughtful people are often those who’ve experienced multiple cultures, who don’t fit anywhere but who can create their own milieu by aggregating friends and bits of culture from all over the world. My view: grab the best bits of everywhere and discard the rest; then look to see what unique contribution can be generated from a unique perspective.
Or to put it conversely: people who fit in are often rather dull….
