No doubt many will throw up their hands in horror, having been conditioned by far too many glossy magazine articles about "frankenfoods" to understand what GMO really means, but at some point some clever person is going to use genetic engineering to make truffles far more easily cultivated, at which point they will become accessible at a reasonable price and we won't need to use truffle oil with its somewhat dubious main ingredient.
