None of the fixes proposed have any chance whatsoever of being enacted. Why is this? Because representative democracy itself is the problem, not any particular details of the implementation. Remember that despite all the fact listed at the beginning of this article, more than 74 million US voters still wanted Trump to continue in the White House and still wanted the Republican Party to continue its relentless march toward imposing fascist tyranny - all in the name of "freedom." The hard fact is that in our global complex world, expecting ordinary ignorant foolish people to grasp anything of importance at all and then vote on the basis of issues and reason is at best wishful thinking. We expect people to demonstrate qualifications before being permitted to drive, fly an aircraft, or even open a hair salon. It's beyond credulity that we expect no qualifications from our candidates and no qualifications from voters. Until this basic reality is faced (which it won't be, because who wants to admit they are clueless in a world where everyone imagines themselves to be "better than average") we will continue our march toward populist dictatorship - not just in the USA but around the world. Seeing Trump as a US phenomenon and seeing "rectifications" as a US-centric ideal misses the point entirely. Modi, Orban, Putin, Erdogan, Brexit, Le Pen, Babis, etc. are all equal manifestations of the failure of representative democracy. We must understand the root cause, not be distracted by largely superficial symptoms.
