Nothing much has changed today. Humans will always be susceptible to mass hysteria, as recent events have shown. We're just a credulous reason-free species that believes whatever we're told by supposed "authority figures" no matter how ignorant and unreasoning those purported authority figures (news anchors, politicians, your favorite TV comedian) may be.
