One can hardly fault Galileo for side-stepping the thorny question of human consciousness during an era when ordinary people still believed in gods, goblins, ghosts, and "souls." It's only now, with a wealth of modern technology, that we are beginning to understand how the transient illusion of partial consciousness is created inside the brain and it will likely be another thirty years or more before all the details are known. So pretending that Galileo "misled science" is just clickbait nonsense and unworthy of indulgence.
