One element of Russian propaganda I find to be psychologically interesting is that tyrannical regimes always, without exception, use extremely crude and simplistic messaging. Enemies are demonized and dehumanized, there's always a hidden presence lurking in the background (in the case of Kremlin propaganda, the "bankers" (e.g. that hoary old myth of Jewish global plotting) and "nazis" and all the rest of the tiresome babble we see coming out of equally stunted places like China, North Korea, etc. It's easy to see that in the USA propaganda organizations like Fox News continue to move in this direction, increasingly taking their cue from overtly rabble-rousing outlets like Breibart etc.

Clearly, a great many people find vile lies and empty hatred extremely appealing. It is not clear that it's a good idea to enable such people to have influence over the social or political life of a nation.
