One of the curious things about language is the tension between the desire to communicate concepts and the desire to communicate membership of a group. Hence all groups create their own dialects/jargon, and this of course reduces the ease of cross-group discourse. I feel fortunate to have reached the stage of life commonly known as Advanced Curmudgeonhood wherein I feel I can largely ignore whatever today’s ephemerally fashionable terms happen to be and rely entirely on Standard English. But I do appreciate the occasional brief foray into ModSpeak and I’m grateful for your concise summary of DateSpeak here!
