One of the fascinating phenomenon is the fact that it's always the perpetrators of atrocities who believe they're the potential victims. Right-wing regimes imprison, torture, and kill while claiming that everyone is under threat from shadowy left-wing (e.g. ordinary people) forces. Partly this is because right-wing folk tend to be less intelligent, emotionally unstable, and supremely afraid of everything around them.
