One of the problems with the concept of AVs is that no one is clear what problem they're supposed to solve. Congestion is unnecessary if we stop being stupid and no longer force people to commute to & from work and if we adopt more home schooling (maybe 50% home, 50% school). So then what are AVs for? One day they will be far more capable and safe than human drivers, who are abysmal. But for now it's just another tech fantasy, a non-solution to a problem more easily solved by more direct means. There's something very wrong with US tech culture, along the adage "for a hammer, every problem looks like a nail."
