One of the unintentionally amusing aspects of the Brexit stupidity is the simultaneous insistence by Brexiteers that (i) the UK has every right to break away from Europe and damn the consequences, and also (ii) Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland have no right whatsoever to break away from the UK regardless of the consequences of the Brexit self-harm.

Foolish people always do foolish things. Which is why representative democracy is so profoundly unfit for purpose in our complex inter-connected modern age. Representative democracy is what brought us to Brexit, Trump, Bolsonaro, Babis, Erdogan, Orban, et al. Time for a change.
