One of the very curious things about the great "can we augment intelligence" debate is the total absence of reference to real life. When we look at real life we observe that our species does everything possible to avoid thinking. Even clever people rarely bother to educate themselves beyond their professional specialist niche, preferring to "unwind" by gawping at some trivial entertainment just like their lower-IQ peers. It is impossible, therefore, to imagine that any boost to average IQ would make any difference whatsoever in the vast majority of cases. Especially now that our clever little electronic toys enable us to ask for things instead of having to learn to use a remote control device.
