One thing is obvious: no algorithm is ever going to feel emotion unless it's programmed to mimic a simulacrum. This is because emotions are evolution's way of triggering behaviors that on average served ancestors well enough. By definition, computer algorithms don't evolve in the way animals do and by definition they don't need to be prodded by emotions in order to run their programming. There's a lot of silly nonsense talked about AI, but perhaps in a few decades the puff pieces will have faded away and a more useful approach to thinking about what we actually mean by the word "intelligence" will become preponderant.
