Orban in Hungary and PiS in Poland are clear signs that the European Union continues to fail completely to (i) understand the severity of the threat posed by autocrats, and (ii) stand up in a meaningful way to this threat. NATO should expel Hungary and Turkey, and the EU should expel Hungary and put Poland on a strict warning (though Russia's invasion of Ukraine has belatedly caused even the most populist idiots in Poland to grasp the fact that without allies they're on Putin's invasion list just after the Baltic states). Unfortunately, after nearly 80 years of peace, European politicians are spineless halfwits incapable of coping with real threats.
