Our civilization is the first in history to destroy itself in pursuit of ad revenues. Irresponsible sensationalism is now the de facto baseline for all media organizations, because they're in a constant fight to attract attention - and the editors know most people care nothing for facts and context, but only want to gawp at some big explosion or some fearmongering story, before cramming more McSlop down their throats. As a result, there are now no reliable news sources (the BBC is a toxic joke, NPR is laughable, Le Monde Interactif has lost its way, France 24 is coronapanic obsessed, and even The Economist merely repeats whatever the Standard Narrative of the day happens to be). Anyone who expects anything worthwhile from any media organization is going to be (a) duped, or (b) sadly disappointed.
