Our problem is that we haven't understood representative democracy inevitably leads to vermin like Trump and his repellent enablers (e.g. the entire Republican Party). Remember, Orban is Hungary's dictator thanks to the same democratic system, PiS was able to undermine Poland past any hope of undoing, Le Pen will likely become the next Presidente of France, Austria, the Netherlands, and even Sweden all have ultra-right Parties that now wield significant power. All because ordinary people are so easily gulled by vacuous soundbites that appeal to their worst instincts. We require demonstrations of capability for every aspect of modern life except voting and parenthood - so it is hardly surprising that the outcomes in these two areas are persistently awful.
