People appear not to understand the role of media organizations. They do not exist to inform citizens of important matters, nor do they exist to represent reality accurately. Media organizations exist to make money. To do so, they must manufacture sensation in order to grab fickle eyeballs for a few monetizable moments. Thus, lies, misrepresentations, and other harmful content is spewed out into the world because that's always the most profitable course of action. Whether it's the New York Times telling its endless pro-Russian lies or the BBC mindlessly repeating Kremlin propaganda, no news organization can be trusted because the financial incentives are the opposite of what would be required for a responsible, truthful, and accurate media.
