The only uncertainty is precisely when he will do so

Russia’s Tzar-for-life is a rather stupid little man, but like many thugs he has a keen nose for other people’s weaknesses. Fortunately for him, Western nations are led by weak incompetents for whom vacillation, prevarication, and empty words are a way of life.

Now that the Russian dictator is smashing Ukraine in order to install a puppet regime that will be loyal to him personally, the question is: what will he do next? Although Western politicians would like to think that sacrificing Ukraine will satisfy Putin’s ambitions, they are as wrong as it is possible to be.

The reason NATO has not intervened to assist Ukraine is very simple: no one in the West wants to risk nuclear conflict with Russia. As Ukraine was never permitted to join NATO due to Western fear of upsetting Russia’s angry little Tzar, we can all pretend that this posture of fear and avoidance is “reasonable.”

The problem is, if NATO won’t confront Russia when it blatantly attacks a peaceful neighbor because of the fear of nuclear conflict, it logically follows that the very same fear will prevent NATO from taking any meaningful steps to defend the Baltic states when Putin invades them in turn.
