Quite a few studied have shown that once we humans form a belief system and an attachment, we reliably discount all information that could contradict our bias. It is salutary to remember that even fifty years after the end of WWII there were plenty of Germans (ordinary, decent people) who still regarded Hitler as fundamentally a decent patriotic man who unfortunately made a few minor mistakes. It is highly unlikely that Trump supporters have the capacity to alter their perspective sufficiently to be influenced permanently by anything he does, and it is a certainty that they will all reliably vote for him again in 2020, thus ensuring his re-election. As in, “well, I don’t approve of everything he’s said and done, but I can’t let a baby-eating death panel demo-rat into the White House.”
