Representative democracy is in its closing phase. It’s not surprising that a lot of chaos, confusion, crossed wires, and sheer incompetence should accompany the major themes. In fact it’s difficult to imagine how Internet media companies could possibly avoid being pulled into what is in effect a global situation. The interesting question is: given how influential these companies are, how will ruthless vested interests go about subordinating them to requirements? We’ve already seen the Kremlin organize the takeover of Vkontakt, the Russian language FB equivalent. I doubt very much that this will turn out to have been a unique event.
