Russia’s Advantage
Why Western vacillation and lack of preparation means Russia can out-last Ukraine and NATO
Western journalists make their living by creating silly puff-pieces full of sensationalistic nonsense designed to attract fickle eyeballs for a few monetizable moments. Western journalists do not make their living by reporting accurately on events of global importance. Even supposedly “serious” news organizations like the BBC fill their slots mostly with celebrity gossip, sports, and context-free soundbites about whatever it is the editors think will attract the most people, whose heads are invariably quite empty.
And so it is that when it comes to coverage of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, Western journalists focus endlessly on the totally unrepresentative shiny pieces of kit like HIMARS instead of on the reality that most of what the West has provided to Ukraine is ancient junk that has little or no utility on a modern battlefield. Western journalists babble about how a handful of main battle tanks (MBTs) and infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) will enable Ukraine to crush Russian forces, but conveniently forget to mention that (i) these weapon systems are being supplied in numbers far too small to make a meaningful difference, and (ii) won’t actually arrive in Ukraine until it is far too late.
