Sadly, this article fails to point out that DNA tests are today based on Snips (single nucleotide polymorphisms) and as such do not provide absolute identification. What such tests provide is a statistical probability. But in a town of 50,000 people at least five (on average) will present the same DNA profile. In a city of 5,000,000 there will be 500 people presenting the same DNA profile based on Snips. Although TV shows like to pretend DNA is absolutely conclusive evidence, we need to realize that - aside from the many human errors that occur in the chain of custody, sample contamination, and misinterpretation of test results - even perfectly performed tests do not provide cast-iron certainty.
