Stephen, your rage is understandable, but the problem is multi-faceted. First of all, most US citizens are clueless and more knowledgeable about Netflix than about politics. Secondly, many imagine that the 2020 election will make a difference (hint: it’s far too late for that). Thirdly, assuming one has made the correct evaluation of what’s really happening in the USA, what can be done? If we look back at history to other power-grabs by unscrupulous cynical thugs it’s clear that civic-style opposition is totally irrelevant. The only way to check the advance of populist/nationalist demagogues is to execute them, but in the USA this would mean killing more than 2,000 politicians, which is infeasible for anyone unable to call on a well-trained private militia. That’s why Lenin and Mussolini and Hitler and Mao and PolPot and all the other blustering incompetents were able to seize absolute power in their various nations. And it’s why the Republican Party has seized power in the USA.
