Surely the real take-away is that if representative democracy hinges on tiny details, then clearly it's already over. Time to focus on creating something more fit for purpose in the hope that many years from now circumstances may arise that make implementation possible. But for the foreseeable future, we are clearly on a one-way trip to tyranny and many horrors. And we're on this road because Plato was correct - democracy is unfit for purpose.
