Thank you Michele for yet another excellent article. For me, the astonishing thing about science has always been the fact that the human brain evolved under conditions not at all favorable to the development of reason and empiricism. The fact that a tiny percentage of our species is capable of performing such mental tasks, even to a limited and flawed degree, is a remarkable example of how the very end of a Gaussian distribution of some quantity can yield instances qualitatively different from all those clustering around the mean.
