Thanks Andy for a good pros-and-cons analysis. Personally I think it’s hilarious that anyone attempts to defend the status quo in which the average driver is atrociously incompetent and simply freezes when presented with life-or-death situations. Even the most rudimentary AI does better than nearly all human drivers in terms of (a) avoiding accidents entirely, and (b) responding adequately when an accident becomes unavoidable.
