Thanks Christopher for another informative article. It's always saddening to me to remember how dynamic art (in all the senses of the word) was in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and how sterile it became once artists discovered a safe economic refuge in the halls of academia. The pretentious and meretricious trash churned out by far too many "artists" today speaks to a complete lack of imagination; art is now more of a confidence trick than a confident exploration of new possibilities.
