Did you know the French have long regarded such books as a superb way to convey adult themes of various kinds (abandonment, drug addiction, social change, etc.)? In French cartoon books are called bandes dessinees and there’s no stigma whatsoever associated with them. Several famous authors have published entirely within this medium and are highly respected.
