Thanks Evelyn for writing about an all-too-common experience. It’s precisely why forward-looking nations decriminalize sex work. Until such work is legal, the likes of Ricky will dominate the industry and unsafe practices will persist. It’s easy to pretend that sex work should be illegal from the safety and comfort of a middle-class existence, which is why so many oppose decriminalization. But that is a profoundly immoral posture: ensuring that others continue to suffer so that one can feel self-satisfied with one’s personal attitudes.
