Thanks Jorgen for an excellent article. For me, looking at the world today, the saddest thing of all is that the USA is in the middle of its own Great Purge, entirely unnoticed. On one side we have the “intentional ignorance” of the right, decrying science and defunding institutions that utilize science and thereby expose the lies of right-wing propaganda. On the other side we have the “politically correct” left, decrying everything they imagine can be “offensive” to minorities or merely something that could conceivably upset someone in some way at some time.

As a result, science in the USA is being eradicated and the consequences for society as a whole will be catastrophic.
