Thanks Kelly for a very useful article. There’s another obvious argument that crushes the 10% myth: evolution is never frivolous. The brain can consume up to 30% of the body’s blood glucose, which is an enormous metabolic investment. There’s no way this would have persisted over hundreds of thousands of years. Only things that are adaptive are retained; that’s why elephants don’t have non-functioning wings flopping around on their backs, and why crocodiles don’t have feathers. Even the most basic grasp of evolutionary principles is enough to debunk the 10% myth.
It just happens that a great many people are so stupid that it seems as if they’re only using 10% of their brains… (mainly the parts used for digestion and control of body temperature, with no activation of the prefrontal cortex ever being detected).
