Thanks Kenan for a sensible article addressing an increasingly hysterical topic. The core problem seems to be the fact the average person can't distinguish between Hollywood schlock and reality, because the average person can't be bothered to educate themselves on real-world issues. The great irony, in my opinion, is that computers are likely to become "intelligent" (by whatever definition we attempt to use for this highly nebulous concept) long before our own small-brained ape-species ever could. Perhaps self-aware computers could keep us happy with bananas and shelled nuts and let us play with safety scissors and glitter glue while they sort out the atrocious mess we've made of everything we've touched over the last eleven thousand years.
