Given how little most people understand about biochemistry and research design, and how desperate most people are when fearful, it’s hardly surprising that all manner of unsupported claims are eagerly embraced during the present mass hysteria. We’re psychologically no further forward than when we were burning witches or holding perfumed handkerchiefs to our noses in order to “save” ourselves from contagion. Unfortunately today a totally irresponsible sensation-addicted mass media merely exploits and amplifies our inherent unreason.
