Thanks Michael for a thoughtful article. My concern is that we’re seemingly incapable of taking the steps necessary, as a society, to mitigate our hardwired primate tendency to fall for the “strong leader” even when the supposedly Great Man is evidently a blustering moron. Representative democracy seems almost purpose-built to ensure the triumph of such types over and over again.
