The Brits embraced the cultural barbarity of 20th century architecture. Architects followed a credo of ugly brutality in which new buildings intentionally ignored their surroundings in order to impose a new aesthetic - one that was unrelentingly ugly, inhuman, and squalid. Prince Charles was perfectly correct when, many years ago, he said that architects have done more damage to London than Hitler's bombs.
