Why the rush to appease Trump and “cut a deal” is doomed to make everything even worse

One of the glories of qualification-free representative democracy (hereafter QFRD), a system in which any moron can stand for election and any moron can vote, is that it reliably produces “leaders” who are either blustering incompetents or dithering spineless nonentities. In the USA, where everything always seems to run to extremes, we’ve recently seen prime examples of both species: the imbecile Biden who slept through his pointless four years and the mindless vermin Trump who is now eagerly destroying the entire world economy. But the systemic failures of QFRD don’t stop there. Because professional politicians all know that Job One is garnering votes from the great mass of totally ignorant and empty-headed citizens who just want to be able to continue to gawp at their flickering shiny screens while cramming ever-more slop down their throats, preserving the status quo is more important than good governance by many orders of magnitude.

This is why the so-called “Great Powers” appeased their way into World War II. Had Britain or France or even the United States possessed a leader capable of coherent thought and with the ability to take resolute action, when Hitler marched a mere 6,000 troops into the Rhineland in yet another of his…
