The Democratic Party may be acting a little ahead of time, but we shall see. The USA is a laggard among the OECD when it comes to religionism so it wouldn’t be entirely surprising to see a decline in religionism gradually impacting US demographics and voting preferences. As the GoP has resolutely targeted the less intelligent and less informed since the 1968 Nixon campaign it seems plausible that people who prefer to vote Democrat are on average more intelligent, more educated, and slightly better informed about issues that matter. As much research has shown that religious belief is inversely correlated with intelligence and education, the obvious conclusion would be that there’s an affinity between voting Dem and rejecting primitive mythologies based on ancient cult beliefs. Whether this affinity is sufficiently strong to offset the still-overwhelming religiosity of the USA is something we shall doubtless discover in the months and years ahead.
