The EU has enabled Europe to live through the longest period of uninterrupted peace since the end of the Roman Empire in 476 CE. Its failures are trivial compared to its successes: freedom of movement, trade, and residence. It has enriched 450 million people. Of course any political system based on fallible humans is going to have many failings, but no failing of the EU is even remotely close to the grotesque stupidity of "patriotic" populism/nationalism that always, every single time, impoverishes its citizens, demonizes others for its failings, and inevitably leads to conflict. Nit-picking about EU failings in the midst of Brexit is like complaining one's shoes are the wrong color while someone attacks you with an axe.
