The hard problem for modern society is that most people are ignorant and stupid, but utterly unaware of their cognitive defects. In former times, most of them would have remained powerless and irrelevant. Today, thanks to our modern communications technologies, they can band together and create mass movements of enormous destructive potential. Until we realize that ordinary people should never be permitted to exercise any form of power (including proselytizing), we will continue down the dark path of repression and tyranny as religionists and other halfwits babble endlessly and dupe the mindless, the bigoted, and the venal, with their inane soundbites.
